French supermajor Total inaugurated a carbon capture facility in the south of France that could remove more than 120,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions. Total hailed its $85.6 million end-to-end carbon capture, transportation and storage demonstration facility in Lacq as Europe's first such project.

Clean energy solutions provider Rentech has signed a memorandum of understanding with 13 domestic and international passenger and cargo carriers that is intended to serve as a framework for a future definitive supply agreement for certified jet fuel from Rentech's proposed synthetic fuels and power facility in Adams County, Mississippi (Natchez Project).

Uhde and TransGas are working together on a 18,000 bbl/d Coal to Gasoline Project located in West Virginia, USA.
On the 25th February 2010 the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Air Quality, issued an Air Permit/Permit to Construct the facility.
This is a significant development as we believe this is the first gasification based project of this size that has been granted a "minor source" air permit.
The TransGas Project has two PRENFLOTM Gasifiers as its source of syngas.

The Associated Press recently reported that with Kentucky trying to land plants to convert coal to cleaner-burning fuels, the state is considering a proposal to extend eminent domain rights to pipeline companies that would transport liquefied carbon dioxide.
The AP reported on Feb. 11 that supporters of the proposal believe the measure will help give Kentucky an advantage in constructing coal-to-liquid fuel plants and could also help the state if federal regulators impose additional restrictions on carbon dioxide emissions.

A partnership called PurGen may now pursue permits to erect a $5 billion, 500-megawatt electrical plant under a deal approved unanimously by the city council late Tuesday. The agreement resolves litigation that erupted over development rights to the 106-acre parcel in 2005, when the city tried to condemn the site for a redevelopment plan.

Liberty Resources Limited has secured 9 coal dispositions at Gold Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada and is awaiting the transfer of a further 4 dispositions, providing Liberty with a total of 9,400 hectares. The Gold Lake area surrounds a 6 meter coal intersection in Petroleum Well 06-26-65-20W3, at a depth of 558 meters and a thickness amenable to Underground Coal Gasification (UCG).

The article states "North Dakota is one of the few states that has accurate numbers, perhaps one of the few places on Earth.
Accurate inventories of the world's natural resources are extremely important. Whether it be coal, oil and gas, geothermal, uranium, water, etc... the world needs accurate natural resource assessments in order to predict future supplies.
