South African synfuel producer Sasol has confirmed that it is in discussions with the Indonesian government regarding a possible project in that country.

However, Sasol spokesperson Jacqui O'Sullivan stresses that the talks are still at a preliminary stage, and that the company is investigating opportunities in several parts of the world on an ongoing
basis.

Newswire Bloomberg quoted an Indonesian government official as say
ing that Sasol might be investing up
to $10-billion on the coal-to-liquids
plant.
The official said that Sasol was sched-uled to sign an accord with the Minister of Energy to study the possibility of
such a plant.

It was reported that the plant could start fuel production at 80 000 bbl/d, and that this could be increased to 1,1-million barrels a day.
