Rentech Mississippi construction to start next year

Rentech said this month they plan to start construction on their Adams County coal-to-liquids facility next year. During the three-year construction phase, the company estimates creating almost 2,300 jobs for local residents. After construction is complete, the company expects to employ 400 workers.

Rentech officials visited with local officials this month to share the results of an economic impact study done by Alcorn State University.

Rentech Executive Vice President of Technology and Commercial Affairs Rick Penning said the company considers the Mississippi project a top priority.

"We have two major projects and [Mississippi] is by far the biggest project for us," Penning said. "This is a world scale project."

Rentech announced in December the signing of a non-binding memorandum with 13 airlines interested in buying fuel produced in Natchez. The memorandum of understanding set 2014 as the tentative goal for the start of fuel sales.

U.S. Senate candidate in Kentucky backs CTL projects

Kentucky Attorney General and U.S. Senate Candidate Jack Conway (R) continued his statewide campaign tour this month, during which he touted the key role coal-to-liquid fuels should play in securing Kentucky's energy and economic future.

During a stop in Paintsville, Conway said if elected he will fight for coal in Washington.

"Rather than make this region feel like they ought to be defensive about the fact we contribute to lower electricity rates to go on the offense and say we ought to be investing more money on carbon sequestration technologies. We ought to be investing in coal to liquid technologies," Conway said.
